ABOUT THE HOW TO HOUSE

You will have to indulge us again as we brag on our baby. You see, we believe every year that this is our best effort ever.

Builder Jason Vander Vorste has taken 21st century technology and incorporated it into timeless design and attention to detail.

This year’s How-to House is a beautiful brick home with cast stone accents that is located on a cul-de-sac on Weston Court in Hollytree West. The home features four bedrooms, three and one half baths and has four living areas, a great room, a gathering room, an upstairs game room and a music room/library. An oversized three-car garage allows plenty of room for the family’s vehicles, toys, garden implements and tools.

This inviting home has an abundance of beautiful landscaping surrounding the walk to the home as you approach the mahogany entry door. Immediately catching your eye as you enter is the custom iron work off the staircase and soaring 20-foot ceiling featuring decorative paint detail. This is the hub of the How-to House that leads to either the master quarters to the left, the upstairs living quarters or down the hallway to the main living areas.

The formal dining room has wood flooring and custom crown moldings. The hand-painted decorative ceiling is a feature that must be seen. Also included in this How-to House is a beautiful custom-built cabinet for the formal china. The music room/library is located across from the dining room. Be sure to notice the floor medallion set in the tile. This room features custom-textured wall designs, wood flooring and custom-designed built-in shelving.

The master suite features hand-troweled texture and connects to a private exercise room/sitting room. Off the master bedroom is a gorgeous master bath with brick flooring, vaulted ceiling and wonderful solid-surfaced slabs covering the custom cabinetry, shower and tub deck. Both master closets include built-in dressers as well as plenty of storage for clothes and shoes.

The great room features a 13-foot ceiling and has stained woodwork and a wall of stained built-ins surrounding the slate-covered fireplace.

Located off the great room are the kitchen, eating area and gathering room. This large room includes 18”x 18” tile flooring, granite slab counter tops and backs plash and wonderful stained cabinetry built-ins. Not far from the kitchen area is the large laundry room with a large closet, custom lockers and plenty of cabinet and counter space.

The second floor of the How-to House features three spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms and an oversized game room with built-ins that all come together to form the perfect entertainment area for any family. The front and rear patios feature wooden inlay ceilings.

Construction

The house, like all Al Carrell How-to Houses, was built using a number of construction techniques and materials to add durability and value.

Laser Precision installation of doors and windows. The doors and windows were squared-in using a laser dimensioner to assure a precise fit. The result will be easier operation and minimal air leakage.

ACME Brick on the exterior. ACME is regarded in the industry as one of the very finest bricks that you can buy. With ACME brick on the exterior, there will be no crumbling or cracking of the brick.

Rough-Sawn Cedar Trim on the patio for maximum beauty and durability.

Hardie Board continuous vented soffit with ridge vent to provide superior attic ventilation, lowering utility costs while maximizing interior comfort.

Central Vacuum. The house is equipped with a Vac-U-Flo bagless, filterless dual motor “Tru-Cyclonic central vacuum

Energy

Recirculating Hot Water. Hot water passes every faucet in the house. If it is not drawn, it re-circulates back to the tank to stay hot. The result is instant-on hot water and lower water and energy bills.

Bat Insulation in the exterior walls. The material delivers an extremely high R13 value for the exterior walls, an R11 for the interior walls and a better than code R38 in the attic.

Energy Efficient Vinyl Windows to minimize heating and cooling costs and to avoid winter condensation.

Tyvek Homewrap System around the exterior to reduce moisture and improve interior air quality.

Structured Media System provides future flexibility for computer networking and upgraded telephone systems.
