You never see what’s holding your home together. But you can count on it every day in every kind of weather. For the Al Carrell How-to House, we turned to Tyler’s Home Depot to provide the framework for a creative expression that’s designed for several lifetimes.
While lumber may look like lumber to the untrained eye, just like everything else, it comes in varying degrees of quality.
The bottom plates between the foundation and the studs consist of treated yellow pine 2x4s and 2x6s. They prevent rotting and are resistant to termites.
Approximately 184,000 linear feet of finger joint studs were used to frame the walls of the How-to House. Approximately 2,180 linear feet of Cedar Rough Sawn tongue and groove lumber was used for the siding. It took over 200 sheets of 4’ x 8’ oriented strand board to cover the sides of the house.
Underneath the roofing material is another 6,400 square feet of oriented strand board to form the basis of a long-lasting roof.
As you look at the decor, design and finish work on the 2008 Al Carrell How-to House, know that the very finest materials from The Home Depot are standing behind the walls, beneath your feet and over your head to make this a solid investment into the 22nd century.
