WINDOWS

There was a time in the evolution of home construction that windows were the essence of simplicity. Simply take some glass, slot the glass into some cut wood and build the wood frame, or sash, such that it could open and close by one means or another.

But the glass that was in those simple windows came at a high price. In the summer, heat easily entered the home. And in the winter, heat easily radiated out of the home.

Both circumstances served to reduce indoor comfort levels and increase heating and cooling costs.

For the Al Carrell How-to House, Jason Vander Vorste chose the Showcase 200 Series Custom Vinyl Window.

Vinyl?

Yes, vinyl. It makes an excellent window frame material. It will not rot, rust, peel, chip or corrode. Since the color is fully integrated into the frame material, it will never need to be painted. So durable are the Showcase 200 Series windows, they are guaranteed to withstand the tests of time by a transferable, limited lifetime warranty.

That’s good news about the frames. What about the glass? The windows in the How-to House are manufactured using the EnviroShield energy saving glass system. EnviroShield is a low-emissive (”Low-E”) high-performance glass system. The key to its performance is a proprietary metallic coating. Many other types of Low-E glass consist of a single layer of metal oxide or silver. But the EnviroShield system uses a proprietary two-layer silver coating that is spectrally selective.

It blocks out a significant portion of the infrared radiation that increases cooling costs and the ultraviolet radiation that damages fabrics, yet it lets in a high degree of visible light.

This same coating gives the windows superior performance in reducing heat loss through the glass.

So summer and winter, the family living in the Al Carrell How-to House will be more comfortable while they save on heating and cooling costs.
